Katelyn Tan

About Me

Katelyn Tan is a pianist, composer, and arranger based in the Bay Area. Born and raised in San Francisco, she began her musical studies at the age of 10. She completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of the Pacific in 2017 and Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2020. In 2018, she joined the San Francisco Ballet as a pianist, where she currently accompanies classes and rehearsals, and has also served as music faculty and has led ballet pianist seminars and music classes. Upon graduating from SFCM in 2020, Katelyn joined the conservatory as a staff accompanist and has been playing for the collegiate and pre-collegiate departments since, where she has also appeared as a guest lecturer. In the past, she has also been a rehearsal pianist for companies including San Francisco Opera, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, San Francisco Girls Chorus, Smuin Ballet, Berkeley Ballet Theater, and the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. She served as the ballet pianist for San Francisco Opera from 2019 until the COVID-19 shut down, performing in their productions of Carmen, Billy Budd, and Rusalka. Along with being a classical accompanist for ballet, choir, instrumentalists, and opera,

Katelyn also has extensive experience in musical theater, serving as regular faculty and an accompanist in the Young Conservatory at the American Conservatory Theater from 2018-2022, and now currently as a substitute.

In 2023, Katelyn, along with violinist/violist, Anju Goto, and cellist, Federico Strand Ramirez, founded Sixth Station Trio, a piano trio dedicated to performing "unconventional chamber music" and bridging the worlds of video game/anime music and classical music to improve and encourage classical music accessibility. Since their sold-out debut at the iconic Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, performing the music of Studio Ghibli, the trio has gone on to perform at major video game conventions and venues around the country, including (but not limited to) The Game Developer's Conference, PAXEast, MAGFest/MAGWest, Fanime, St. John the Divine Concert Series (NYC), Grace Cathedral Concert Series, and on top of that has amassed a huge following of over 100k followers combined on social media for their covers. They have also collaborated with major artists including, but not liminted to, Aivi & Surasshu (Composers of the Cartoon Network Hit-TV Series, Steven Universe), Isekai Stage, maddiedanceparty, and radxflipnote. In 2026, they opened for MXMToon and performed their own sold-out mainstage performance at the 2026 PAXEast convention. The trio was also signed to two of the biggest video game record labels, GameChops and Materia Music, in 2025 and 2026, and have since released two debut albums, Zelda Classics and Video Games Unplugged. Katelyn serves as the pianist for the trio and, alongside her partner, Anju, is also an arranger and composer for the trio. She also manages the trio's social medias and online content creation.

Katelyn also has performed as an orchestral pianist for major video game franchises. In 2025, Katelyn was a keyboardist for the Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons Orchestra US tour and in 2026 she served as a keyboardist/synth player in the Undertale Determination Symphony World Tour and additionally performed in the orchestra at the 2026 Pokemon World Championships Closing Ceremony held at Chase Center, and in the official song releases, recorded at Skywalker Ranch Sound.

Outside of being a pianist, Katelyn began exploring other musical outlets and in 2020 began anonymously producing Lo-Fi music under the penname, "demon gummies." She gained a following of over 100k monthly listeners on major streaming platforms and has amassed over 40k subscribers on YouTube. As a classical musician, Katelyn strongly believes that playing other kinds of music outside of classical music lends to her perspective as a classical musician and informs her playing as a classical pianist, which was one of the many reasons she began exploring the Lo-Fi music genre. Arranging, composing, and improvising, skills that she also uses in her daily life as a pianist, are heavily intertwined and Lo-Fi has allowed her to explore those skills in new, different ways. Her music has gained millions of streams and ranges from her own original compositions to covers of many different genres. In 2026, she was signed to the GameChops label and released her debut album, "The Roost Radio," which includes original Lo-Fi arrangements of her favorite pieces from the Animal Crossing series of games. This debut also marked the first time she publicly revealed herself as demon gummies in an Instagram post announcing her signing and album release date. Through demon gummies, she also began composing for her first video game produced by Pixebo, titled, "Pixome."

Katelyn is currently based in San Francisco where she continues to perform regularly with Sixth Station Trio and serves as a pianist for the San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. For bookings/inquiries, please reach out via the contact form.
